Position Purpose: Reports to the Administrative Lab Director. Responsible for the technical and day to day operations of the Clinical Laboratory and the proper performance of all procedures. Develops and maintains all policies, procedures, and quality control protocols, ensuring they comply with regulatory requirements. Manages, supervises, and serves as professional role model to technical and clerical staff. Takes actions to control costs and optimize the department’s financial position. Performs approved laboratory procedures in assigned licensure specialties, as required to meet workload demands. Establishes and maintains good working relationship with physicians, nursing staff, hospital administration, and other departments.
Education: Earned Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or closely related field or equivalent education and experience as defined by State of Florida.
Minimum 5 years of Laboratory experience, with 2 years of experience as a Supervisor/Manager required. Position requires theoretical and practical knowledge of quality control and quality assurance as they relate to Laboratory Medicine. Position requires exercise of independent judgment with minimum degree of supervision. Work involves testing procedures which require high degree of theoretical knowledge and technical expertise in licensed areas. Other required abilities include: entering and retrieving data from Laboratory Information System, excellent oral and written communication skills, interaction with the public and medical/nursing personnel, making decisions under pressure, handling multiple priorities, and managing stress appropriately.
Licenses/Certificates: Holds current Florida Medical Technologist Supervisor license or is eligible to obtain one in the following five areas: Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, Serology, Hematology, and Immunohematology. Must have current BLS certification prior to hire date.
