Director, Laboratory Services

The Clinical Advisory Boards consist of clinical leaders from various healthcare systems and are a critical part of the contracting process. The boards exist to ensure clinical input into the contract portfolio, perform product evaluations as necessary, and support the implementation of contracts within their health system. Boards exist in the areas of Nursing, Surgery, Radiology, Cardiology, Laboratory, Information Technology, and various specialty committees.

The responsibilities of the Director of Laboratory Services include:

  • Direct oversight of the Laboratory Advisory Board.  May also be assigned other boards, or specialty committees to manage in addition to laboratory.
  • Ensuring that Advisory Board Members understand and adhere to the Advisory Board Charter.
  • Facilitating clinical discussions with the Laboratory Advisory Board to drive contracting strategies, determine clinical and technical requirements for RFPs, make contract award recommendations (and in some cases, contract award decisions), and support implementation of contracts.
  • Work with Physician Services team and Physician Advisors group on key contract categories to utilize clinical evidence and physician feedback to support the advisory board process.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert and provide clinical support to the advisory boards, sourcing team, global sourcing, and other departments related to Laboratory Services. 
  • Collaborating with the HT Implementation Team in the development of conversion and implementation strategies for new members.  
  • Building and maintaining close client relationships, understanding client key initiatives, and how those initiatives integrate or impact contracting initiatives.
  • Engaging various levels of stakeholders, including but not limited to: clinicians, physicians, technical staff, department heads, supply chain executives, CEOs, COOs, and CFOs.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for all clinical disciplines related to Laboratory Services. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of Laboratory Standards and Recommended Practices, CLSI standards, JCAHO guidelines, CDC guidelines, etc as they apply to Laboratory Services.
  • Demonstrated success in managing a comprehensive clinical program within a hospital, clinic, or managed care organization required.  Demonstrated leadership history and capability required.
  • Documented examples of successful clinical initiative implementation in a multi facility environment.
  • Familiar with the primary technologic and strategic issues pertaining to group purchasing industry required.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated presentation/public speaking skills and experience required.
  • Proficient with a personal computer and the use of Microsoft office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required.

 EDUCATION

  • College degree with Bachelor of Science in clinical area required.
  • Master’s Degree preferred

 EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years Laboratory Leadership experience and practice history required. 
  • Strong Team Member participation history and experience with team structure and team dynamics preferred.
