Job Description 

The Laboratory Supervisor, under the guidance of the Laboratory Department Manager, will supervise department technologists (and technicians, where applicable) and ensure that day to day laboratory operations are in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices. Significant duties include, but are not limited to, fostering a positive work environment, modeling professional behavior and driving performance and accountability. The supervisor will address behavioral or performance related issues in a timely manner and escalate issues to the Lab Manager for resolution as needed. The Lab Supervisor will be responsible for technologist adherence to assigned scheduling and maintain appropriate staffing levels to meet laboratory operational needs. The supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that operational procedures are followed consistently and required documentation is reported accurately.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for day to day department operations. Supervises department technologists (and technicians, where applicable) and is involved with selection, coaching, development, evaluation, and performance management of all assigned technologists.
  • Maintains schedule and communicates scheduling requirements to technologists. Ensures that appropriate staffing is assigned to meet daily operational needs.
  • Sets daily priorities as needed, adapting staff performance to changing needs of the customers and/or the organization, as applicable.

  • Creates and reviews results and quality documents. Investigates and completes error management documentation (i.e., Waivers, Deviations, and Customer Complaints, etc.).
  • Provides technical support and acts as a resource to the departmental staff.
  • Perform sample testing up to 30% of scheduled hours.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:

  • Testing Personnel Classification - Must meet CLIA requirements for the “High Complexity Testing” and/or specific state requirements (whichever is more stringent): N/A
  • Must abide by all safety guidelines and wear appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment mandated by LABS, Inc., OSHA and any other regulatory agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a chemical, physical, biological science or a clinical laboratory science/medical technology program by an accrediting institution.
  • 7 years clinical lab experience with some supervisory experience.
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Ability to mentor and train staff
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in controlled environments utilizing aseptic technique.
  • Ability to work within Quality systems under regulatory requirements

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Master’s degree or applicable higher education.
  • 2-3 years previous supervisory experience preferred in Clinical Lab, Biotech, or Manufacturing Industry.
  • CHT/CHS/MT Certification
