Registered Nurse (RN) Quality Coordinator

Full time Weekdays

Located in Austin, we are an acute care and rehabilitation hospital providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care. 

Job Summary and Duties

The RN Quality Coordinator coordinates quality initiatives and clinical performance improvement. These initiatives and programs may be disease specific and may include Core Measures, physician peer review, national data registries, OPPE/ FPPE, and special projects. The Quality Coordinator will learn and perform additional duties within the Quality Management department that assist with critical needs, staff shortages, and/or holiday coverage. The position participates in providing patient specific care standards as directed and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.

Duties

Evaluate hospital performance in comparison to standards/requirements (i.e. Core Measures, Stroke, STS, and CathPCI)

Perform daily concurrent review and retrospective reviews as needed to ensure compliance with evidence based measures

Collaborate with and educate physicians and multi-disciplinary hospital staff to achieve compliance

Develop an action plan when performance varies from standard requirements/benchmarks. This includes coordination, dissemination, and implementation of action plans.

Manage data registries as needed (COMET, NCDR, STS, Quintiles, CHOIS)

Complete chart abstraction and perform inter-rater reliability (IRR)

Ensure all data reporting timelines are met (IRR, normalization, data harvest deadlines, etc.)

Interact and/or serve as a point person with external abstraction companies, as needed (i.e. Q-Centrix)

Utilize quality improvement methodologies to facilitate improvement initiatives

Organize and conduct interdisciplinary team meetings. Serve as a resource to physicians, nurses, educators, and leaders on evidence based measures.

Coordinate with nursing staff and hospital leaders to establish and implement standardized, evidenced based processes/protocols.

Abstract, analyze, trend, and report data to various hospital committees using spreadsheets and graphs as indicated

Use PDCA methodology to plan and evaluate process changes

Participate in regulatory surveys and preparedness activities as needed

Attend and participate in staff meetings, facility committees, employee forums, and departmental meetings as requested

Participate in nursing unit Quality Rounds as needed (i.e. Golden Hour)

Prepares and presents in-service and training programs as requested, including new employee orientation and unit huddles

Implement organization’s principles of exceptional communication and customer service including use of AIDET and KWAKT

Perform clinical chart reviews as it pertains to peer review, FPPE, and/or OPPE indicators

Analyze complications, mortalities, and investigate case referrals for potential quality of care issues

Collaborate with Medical Staff Chairman and take action as directed which may include further review of data, sending letters, or other actions as needed

Conduct special clinical or focused studies and reviews at the request of the medical staff, administration, Quality Director, Risk Manager, Patient Relations Liaison, etc.

 

Qualifications

Education:

Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Texas

Bachelor's required

 

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Current BLS

 

Experience/ Skills:

Two years acute care hospital experience and one or more years’ experience with performance improvementExtensive knowledge of Physician Performance Improvement

Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Proficient knowledge of word-processing and data entry

Capability of interpreting data and creating understandable information.
