Job Description

Job Title: CVOR CST Tech (Certified Surgical Technologist) 
Location: Winchester, VA

Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join our dynamic team at our healthcare facility in Winchester, VA. As a CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) CST Tech, you will play a critical role in supporting the cardiovascular surgery team by assisting with various procedures in the operating room. You will be responsible for preparing the operating room, sterilizing equipment, and ensuring that all necessary instruments and supplies are available for surgery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Operating Room: Set up and prepare the cardiovascular operating room, ensuring that all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterile and ready for the procedure.
  • Assist Surgeons and Medical Team: Provide direct support to cardiovascular surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other surgical team members during cardiovascular surgeries, including assisting with draping, positioning, and handling instruments.
  • Sterilization & Infection Control: Ensure proper sterilization and handling of surgical instruments and equipment, maintaining infection control standards at all times.
  • Surgical Instrumentation: Pass instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies to the surgeon during procedures.
  • Maintain a Safe Environment: Monitor the sterile field throughout the surgery, ensuring that the surgical area remains free from contamination.
  • Assist with Patient Positioning: Ensure proper patient positioning for cardiovascular procedures, following established protocols.
  • Documentation & Record-Keeping: Accurately document surgical procedures and assist with maintaining patient records, including identifying and managing surgical instruments.
  • Post-Operative Support: Assist with the cleanup of the operating room after surgery, including disposing of used instruments, cleaning and restocking supplies, and ensuring a safe environment for the next procedure.

Qualifications:

  • Certification: Must be a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
  • Experience: Previous experience in a cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) setting preferred, though candidates with experience in other surgical specialties may also be considered.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in handling cardiovascular surgical instruments.
    • Knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and safety protocols.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
    • Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
    • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment as needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
