Permanent Direct Hire Position - Histotech or Histotechnologist
Position Overview:
As a Histotechnologist/Histotech, you will play a crucial role in our laboratory operations by performing histological procedures to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination by a pathologist. You will be responsible for embedding, cutting, staining, and mounting tissue samples onto slides, ensuring accuracy and quality in all phases of specimen processing. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to laboratory protocols, and proficiency in using laboratory equipment and techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and complex histological procedures including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining (routine and special stains), and coverslipping.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as tissue processors, embedding centers, microtomes, and automated stainers.
- Ensure specimen integrity, proper identification, and accurate labeling throughout the processing workflow.
- Perform quality control procedures and participate in proficiency testing to maintain accreditation standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to safety protocols and regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with pathologists, laboratory staff, and healthcare providers to ensure timely and accurate diagnostic results.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Histotechnology, or a related field.
- Certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histotechnician (HT) by ASCP or equivalent.
- Prior experience in a histology laboratory setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of histological techniques, procedures, and equipment.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
