Full time and permanent. Day shift 8a-5p Tuesday-Saturday

Purpose of role: 

The Laboratory Supervisor supports laboratory leadership in organizing and scheduling the daily activities of the laboratory staff. The Laboratory Supervisor may act as Technical Supervisor per CAP and CLIA guidelines and should also qualify as and may act as General Supervisor per those guidelines. The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for developing and implementing the training and competency program, supervising laboratory personnel in collecting, analysing and interpreting lab results and performing laboratory testing. The Laboratory Supervisor also assists and supports the Laboratory Manager or similar management with a variety of tasks and procedures, working within the Quality Management System and developing new training and scheduling related programs.

Technical Requirement:

•          The Laboratory Supervisor meets the requirements for General Laboratory Supervisor per CLIA and CAP:

  • Qualified as a Director for high-complexity testing; OR
  • Qualified as a Technical Supervisor for high complexity testing; OR
  • Doctoral degree in clinical laboratory science or chemical, physical or biological science with 1-year training and experience in high-complexity testing; OR
  • Master's degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or chemical, physical or biological science and 1-year training and experience in high-complexity testing; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or chemical, physical or biological science and 1-year training and experience in high-complexity testing.
  • For other specialties, not including Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology:

          MD or DO with a current medical license and 1-year training and experience in high-complexity testing in the respective specialty; OR

          Doctoral degree in clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science with 1-year training and experience in the respective specialty; OR

          Master's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science and 2 years training and experience in high-complexity testing in the respective specialty; OR

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science and 4 years training and experience in high-complexity testing in the respective specialty.

•          Must have or be eligible for a FL Laboratory Supervisor’s License.

•          MB(ASCP) or MLS(ASCP) certification recommended.

 

Skill requirement:

•          Strong track record working in a clinically certified or accredited (e.g. CLIA, CAP, NYS) laboratory.

•          Extensive working knowledge of CLIA/CAP laboratory requirements.

•          Familiarity with LIMS/LIS systems.

•          Strong working knowledge of laboratory automation and instrumentation

•          Proven ability to organize, schedule, and motivate a team.

•          Excellent communication skills.

•          Experience with project management methodologies (e.g. scrum, waterfall, agile)

•          Must be able to follow and promote Good Documentation Practices (GDP).

•          Good molecular biology bench skills and experience with quantitative RT-PCR.

•          Ability to organize, create, and implement visual workplace design, including 5S, KanBan or similar systems. LEAN Six Sigma experience a plus.

Key Responsibilities/Tasks:

•          Works closely with the Laboratory Manager or Laboratory Management to schedule Clinical Laboratory Staff tasks and activities.

•          Monitors key performance indicators to ensure laboratory team members are meeting production goals.

•          Monitors quality indicators associated with sequencing runs and works with Technical Supervisor, Laboratory Manager, and Product Development team to troubleshoot and ensure sequencing quality.

•          Supervises the work performed by laboratory staff with attention and adherence to the laboratory’s Quality Control program and GDP.

•          Implements and maintains the appropriate training and competency program.

•          Works to support the Laboratory Manager with training of new clinical laboratory staff.

•          Provides workflow-related guidance to group members and communicates workflow insights to laboratory leadership.

•          Promotes a high-performance, production-minded, positive work environment.

•          Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

•          Employee may be asked to perform additional tasks as required.
