Job Summary: Technical Lab Supervisor
Location: Rural Oregon
Position Overview: The Technical Lab Supervisor reports to the Director of Outpatient Services and is responsible for overseeing technical and scientific operations within the laboratory, including microbiology and point-of-care services. This role involves performing a wide range of laboratory tests, troubleshooting issues with specimens and instrumentation, and collaborating with various healthcare staff to ensure quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct and interpret laboratory tests across multiple disciplines (e.g., blood banking, chemistry, hematology).
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with quality control and regulatory standards.
- Analyze test results and solve unexpected problems independently.
- Train laboratory and clinical staff on equipment and procedures.
- Maintain documentation for staff competencies and quality control.
- Ensure the laboratory is always survey-ready and follows safety protocols.
- Share 24-hour on-call responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant science or medical technology field.
- Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or equivalent certification; Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification with the ability to obtain MLS within one year.
- At least 4 years of general lab experience, including 2 years in high-complexity testing.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively at all organizational levels.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ASCP Specialty board certification(s) in Chemistry and/or Blood Banking.
- Availability to work five shifts per week, including some weekends.
